Mission & History

  • The Frederick Giving Project was founded in 2009 by a group of young professionals who envisioned a new kind of networking group that would foster philanthropy in our colleagues, family and friends. We have created a way that we can pool our resources – both time and money - in order to help make our County better.

  • To do this, we focus on four things:

    (1) Build the capacity of local nonprofits by choosing worthy, emerging nonprofits to provide grants and technical assistance for operating and administrative tasks;
  • (2) Provide a venue for networking and leadership growth for young professionals in Frederick County;
  • (3) Promote a caring culture by making philanthropy accessible to a new generation; and
  • (4) Foster a fun environment for giving that will encourage genuine and sustained involvement.

Here's how it works:

You pledge at least $100 during the calendar year, payable in as many installments as you want. $10 for 10 months. Exactly $8.33333 each month. $25 each quarter. All of it up front. We're flexible!

Then, get involved. We're always doing something fun... check out our calendar. Happy hours, snowball fights, dressing up like cupcakes to volunteer, YAY days, speakeasys, house parties, service projects to help our grantee. You get the drift. You don't have to come to everything, but pick one that sounds cool and come out.

If you want to give more, look for volunteer opportunities listed in our newsletter each month.

At the end of the year, we put all of our money in a big pot and vote on a Frederick County nonprofit to receive one big grant - bigger than any of us could give alone. That nonprofit will become our "project" for the next year as we partner with them to help them accomplish something great.
